Superintendent Dr. David J. Peterson's April Letter
This is a busy time of year for all at Scottsdale Unified School District (SUSD), and it’s hard to believe that we only have eight weeks left in the school year. We still have a lot of work ahead of us. As I write this, we are in the middle of AIMS testing. Our teachers have done a great job and our students are well prepared! During this school year, we have had many student and staff accomplishments of which we are extremely proud. See April Letter

Governing Board Voted
On April 11, 2014 the Governing Board voted unanimously to adopt a modified schedule for K-5 elementary schools that includes a Wednesday early release. This decision was made after the following data was provided to the Board:

•           15 out of 19 elementary school principals preferred the early release Wednesday to a shortened schedule (9 am- 3:10 pm) every day.
•           With a 60% response rate of all elementary teachers in K-5 schools, 71% (263) of teachers prefer the early release Wednesday option.
•           Of the 74 parent group leaders who responded, 44% prefer the early release Wednesday option while 56% prefer the shortened day option.

This decision is to accommodate the loss of half of the specials (art, music, PE)  in elementary schools to help absorb the reduction of the M & O override.  Next year the early release time will be at 1:00pm.

The K-5 elementary school schedule for 2014-2015 school year protects the integrity of instructional time for Language Arts, math, science, and social studies while at the same time accounting for the impact of lost teacher planning time through the reduction of elementary specials.

Dr. Peterson's Office Hours
Superintendent, Dr. Peterson will be at Hohokam on Wednesday, April16th from 7:00-8:30am. This is a great time for you to stop by and talk with him, or ask any questions you may have.

Congratulations to our Vex IQ Robotics Team who competed at the Arizona State University on Saturday, 3/1!
